Get to Know Me!
Greetings!
My name is Kia Gordon. I am from North Chicago, IL - a small suburban town that many refer to as NOGO. However, you will learn from my book that growing up there helped me become a go-getter! I was surrounded by black excellence at home and in the community. Examples were my mom, a hard-working single parent, the teachers, principals, mayors, policemen, fireman and clergy. I couldn't help but be inspired to go after my dreams.
Poetry caught my interest when I was child due Hip-Hop/Rap music. I became intrigued with poetry in high school. I had learned the different types of poetry and the nuances inferred. The course’s final project was an anthology that featured each student’s poem. The experience propelled me to continue to write poetry as it was quite therapeutic.
I have written several inspirational poems and newsletters over the years. I decided to share some of my poems in hopes of encouraging the discouraged. To be able to share my thoughts and ideas with others is an honor that I do not take likely. May each reader learn or be reminded that they hold the KEY to their happiness.
Peace & Blessings,
~Kia

My sons have multiple nicknames but their group titles are Mommy's Sweet Peas, SONflowers and my SONshines!
DISCLAIMER:
My sons have only heard the G-rated poems.

FUN FACTS!
FAVORITE MOVIE
Love Jones, a 1997 rom-com, is one of my favorite movies. It captured the beautiful essence of poetry, it had a spectacular cast, a realistic depiction of relationships, the Chicago vibe and a terrific soundtrack!
FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM
The Chicago Bears are my favorite NFL team because of the 85' Bear's Superbowl Shuffle!
